Penelope or “Nelly” as she like to be known is a lovely sassy, livewire little girl with several complex needs, she lives with her mum and siblings and their dog Dolly in Scotswood, Newcastle. This is a very busy household with lots of after school activities and events.  Nelly loves dancing and music and loves time on her iPad or attending training sessions with her siblings who both compete in their chosen sports.

Nelly has CPVT which is a life-threatening heart abnormality which requires specialist medical support and Nelly is scheduled for heart surgery in the future. Nelly always carries a defibrillator with her, so as her PA you would require training or already have relevant experience in operating such equipment which would need to be demonstrated.  Nelly always wears specialist sunglasses due to her having photophobia where the sunlight causes her issues, she also has a diagnosis of ADHD and autism with learning difficulties and can present with some challenging behaviour due to this, if she is overstimulated or not regulated. Experience of working with children with Autism is required. Nelly takes medication for her medical needs, and this is managed by her mum.

Nelly is looking for a Social Personal Assistant to assist and accompany her to utilise the local community and enjoy her chosen activities. Nelly requires permanent supervision as she has no sense of danger and will take risks. A car driver is preferred as Nelly enjoys trips out in the car and it helps regulate her. There is no personal or domestic care in this role.

A good level of fitness will be required for this position as you would be required to use a specialist pushchair for outings if Nelly required this.

We are currently looking to recruit a female personal assistant for a lovely girl who lives with her parents in the High Heaton area. Katrina is 12 years old and attends a specialist school which she enjoys. Katrina is registered blind with a severe sight impairment, has a learning disability and is non-verbal Autistic. Katrina uses gestures, noises and hand leading to communicate her needs and desires.

As Katrina’s PA you will be required to assist Katrina with her personal care, including pad changes, feeding and drinking which will requires prompts and supervision to ensure she is consuming and drinking enough.

Katrina is a very happy smiley little girl and loves to listen to music, one of her favourite songs is Dolly Parton “Jolene” which she will sing and dance to. She loves sensory toys especially lights and motion equipment.

Katrina is looking to access the community and visit some of her favourite places including The Tim Lamb Centre, Alnwick Gardens, White House Farm as she loves animals, and some SEN soft play sessions. Katrina loves to be outdoors too, so a trip to her favourite park at Paddy Freemans is always on her “to do list”.  Swimming and specialist centres like the Alan Shearer Centre are always a great place to utilise when booked in advance, trips to the beach are always welcomed by Katrina too, but you must be fit as you will need to manage Katrina’s wheelchair or beach buggy when out and about on your ventures. Katrina requires assistance with moving at all times and always require supervision as she has no awareness of danger.

Routine is important to Katrina, so you must be able to adhere to instruction and guidance from Katrina’s parents.

A car driver with a clean Full UK Driving Licence would be preferred for this role as Katrina does have access to a mobility car, and Katrina does hold a companion free bus pass for public transport.

Guy is a lovely 17-year-old boy who is happy to attend school. He has a diagnosis of autism and developmental delay; he lives with his mum who is his main and sole carer. Guy has in the past suffered aggression towards himself and his mother when dysregulated however following several investigations and correct medication guy is now settled with no physical aggressive outbursts but can become dysregulated and emotionally upset and display anxiety, however activities he enjoys, and being outdoors can regulate him quickly and effectively.

Guy enjoys music therapy, spending time on his iPad and getting creative with his Arts and Crafts materials. Guy really enjoys being creative in the kitchen and loves nothing better than to bake his favourite cakes and biscuits. Guy is motivated by food and enjoys visiting restaurants.

Due to the nature of Guy’s health issues Guy needs regular consistent routines and can become dysregulated if new things are introduced too quickly so a patient Personal Assistant with an understanding of Autism and developmental delay is required. Guy is over 6ft tall and as such is extremely strong when he becomes dysregulated. This position would be best suited to a male personal assistant who has a good level of fitness.

Guy likes to visit the Alan Shearer Centre and the Tim Lamb Centre and up until recently really enjoyed horse riding, which he would potentially like to get back into.

About Me:

I am a lively, outgoing disabled woman living in Dumpling Hall. I love music. I also love to go out and about visiting museums, art galleries, and I am a member of the National Trust.

I am a Mum and a Nana but don’t see my family very often as they live outside of Newcastle. Inclusion and holistic support are important to me. I volunteer my time at the local university being on interview panels and as a guest speaker on the Occupational Therapy course.

I am looking for somebody with a good sense of humour with good communication skills.

I need assistance with some aspects of daily living and personal care. I live in my own bungalow, and I am accustomed to organising the assistance I need. I am severely visually impaired with mobility difficulties. I use a manual wheelchair or a motorised scooter outside of the home.

Purpose of Job:

As my Personal Assistant your job will be to assist me with social activities such as shopping, meeting family and friends, and going to the theatre and local gigs. Your main role will be to support me when out and about and be my sighted guide.

My Personal Assistant will work under my direction to meet my needs and will be accountable to me in all aspects of their work.

I would prefer my Personal Assistant to be lively and outgoing, friendly, reliable and able to work flexible hours. They must also be able to respect my privacy and understand the need for confidentiality in all areas of their work.

Good general health is importantly as well as being physically able to push my wheelchair and load it into their vehicle.
