Female Social Personal Assistant (x 2 positions)

Hours: 2 x 20 hours per week including weekends (To be arranged, flexibility required)

Area: Walker, Newcastle Upon Tyne

Rate: £13.20 per hour

 

Karen is 53-year-old woman who lives at home with the support of her family. She has a diagnosed severe learning disability and Autism. Karen is selectively mute however she will converse with trusted member of her family. She will communicate with other with written communicate and technology.

Karen enjoys listening to music with her favourite genre being the 80’s. Her favourite song is “Starship” and she cannot resist a bit of Duran Duran. Karen enjoys going out for a social drink if the occasion arises and loves to attend the Fresh Disco. Karen enjoys the usual soaps on tv, she loves Casualty and enjoys a good laugh with Mrs. Browns Boys.

Karen can get obsessional and focus on things in a repetitive manner. If Karen’s support is cancelled or changed at short notice, this will cause Karen to become anxious and not want to go anywhere. Routine and consistency are essential to Karen.

As Karen’s Personal Assistant you would be expected to accompany Karen to her chosen social activities which could include trips to the Metro Centre, Cinema visits, lunch dates and days out to the beach, she would also like to try some new places of interest. You must be able to access and transport Karen safely on public transport as Karen enjoys, bus trips, ferry trips and the metro to access the community.

You will be required to assist and encourage Karen with personal hygiene care including, prompting and assistance with showering, haircare and toileting hygiene. Karen will need support with dressing and choosing garments appropriately for the weather. Karen is currently working on Healthy Eating and exercising which you would be expected to encourage and assist with, meal preparation would be included in this role.

Accompanying Karen to scheduled appointments will be required and you may be required to make booking/appointments on Karen’s behalf.

About the role.

A Personal Assistant is required by a man in his early 40’s.

You will work as part of a wider care team working towards promoting recovery, keeping him safe and accompanying him to appointments if needed. Although you will need to have a flexible approach to work it is important that you can provide stability and routine. Companionship will be an integral part of the role.

 

About me.

You will mainly be meeting me in Newcastle at a coffee shop or a bar. A love of coffee, people watching and good conversational skills are important. You must be comfortable visiting the gay bars in the city centre. I have a love of films and at times may want to visit the cinema. This role will suit someone friendly, understanding who loves a coffee and a chat and has an interest in films and art.

Awareness of mental health issues will be an advantage.

An understanding and acceptance of the LGBTQ community is essential.

We are looking for a kind, reliable, and flexible Personal Assistant to support my daughter, Anna, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder and significant communication difficulties. Anna requires support with personal care, social activities, and emotional regulation. She uses tools like PECS and visual prompts to aid her understanding, and routine is very important to her well-being. Your role will involve assisting Anna with activities she enjoys, such as swimming, walks, or soft play, as well as helping her navigate daily tasks, manage her emotional responses, and ensure her safety, particularly around situations she finds distressing, such as encountering dogs.

No formal qualifications are required, but experience working with children with autism is preferred. You must be patient, dependable, and able to follow direction while maintaining confidentiality. Being a driver is preferred, and training will be provided as needed. This is a rewarding role for someone with a positive attitude toward inclusion and supporting disabled children.

Driver Essential

 

We are currently recruiting for an experienced personal assistant for a young boy with complexed behavioural and physical complexed needs. He currently resides with his mum and sibling and has dogs.  The individual has a diagnosis of Non-verbal Autism, chronic bowel/kidney disease with complications, Reflux issues and high blood pressure, he has a diagnosis of PICA and due to this always requires full supervision as he will eat non-food items and can harm himself by biting himself, he also has no awareness of danger.  The young person enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including trampolining, swimming and trips to the local parks that have spinning play apparatus. He uses a specialist buggy or harness for trips outside as he struggles to walk far, and for his own safety, he has a specialist helmet that he wears intermittently. The young person loves music and dance which is also used to support with his meltdowns when they arise, and he loves visiting places that have horses as he has a real love of them.

Makaton is currently being taught to the individual so experience of communication with Makaton would be advantageous and necessary for this role.

Technology gadgets are kept to a minimum for this young person as he becomes easily frustrated with the gadgets and becomes disruptive. He has a love of all things related to dinosaurs and whales and has quite a collection of toys.

The main tasks within this role will include supporting the parent in accompanying them to activities, and appointments if necessary, toileting and feeding duties.

This role requires someone who can demonstrate confidentiality and understand the need for it.
