Hours: 18 hours per week (including weekends if required) school holidays only

Area: Newcastle Upon Tyne

Rate: £13.00 per hour

We are currently recruiting for a personal assistant to assist a lovely 7-year-old little boy who has Cerebral Palsy, Global Development Delay, ASD and Epilepsy. He lives with his mum and her wife and has an older brother and cats; he also enjoys spending weekends with his dad.

Oscar is semi – verbal and he can articulate his needs using single words and short sentences with hand gestures and noises and can sing when he is enjoying activities of his choice. He is a very tactile individual and enjoys pressure hugging when he chooses to. He is a wheelchair user and wears splints to support his mobility, he needs full support when he chooses to walk as he will fall.

Oscar is looking for a PA who can accompany him to his chosen venues or activities, including local parks, Tim Lamb Centre, Adventureland and trampolining parks (quiet sessions may apply). He loves music and dancing and visiting Seven Stories and the Baltic Centre, and during the summer, enjoys trips to the coast. Oscar is sensitive to loud noise in large areas so monitoring surrounding areas is required. He is also curious when dogs are about however, he does not like them when they come within his personal space. Personal care is required in this role in the form of toileting needs.

This role would ideally suit a car driver, and this would be preferable, and someone who is used to accessing public transport, as Oscar loves to go on the metros and buses and can recite all the different station names that he passes.

Purpose of Job

Lexi is a lovely, happy fun loving social 5-year-old little girl who lives with her mum and dad in Gosforth. She attends the True Colours Theatre every week where she loves to sing and dance and she also likes to go horse riding. Lexi likes to play with her dolls and make sure they are changed and fed and can go from one activity to the next due to her short attention span, so it will be Lego next and then on to another one.

Due to a brain injury Lexi has multiple physical needs including bilateral Cerebral Palsy and epilepsy. She doesn’t walk but can shuffle on her bottom and has limited use of her left arm but has some use of her right hand which allows her to play on her iPad where she can use touch screen but will again flick from one activity to the next.

Lexi loves to be tickled and loves to laugh, and she can interact and let you know what she wants and at times she can get frustrated, but this is due to her brain injury.

She is still in nappies therefore personal care would be involved.

Training for any equipment used by Lexi will be provided.

Ideally, we are seeking a PA with some experience of working with children with disabilities who is enthusiastic with a genuine interest and enjoyment in working with children.

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBs check and references which will be taken up if you are offered the post.
