About the role:

We are looking for a personal assistant to support out beautiful 5-year-old daughter, Maryam. We are looking for someone who can work alongside us as an extra pair of hands when we are out on social outings to allow us to be able to take all three of our children and keep them all safe.

 

About Maryam:

Maryam is a beautiful 5-year-old young girl, who lives at home with her parents and two sisters who are 8 and 10. Maryam loves to visit quiet environments which can include the park, swimming at the Alan Shearer Centre and generally being outdoors. At home she enjoys activities such as painting, reading books, playing with her teddies, water play and playing with playdough.

Maryam is autistic as well as having sensory disorder and PICCA. She is also nonverbal. She has no safety awareness so you will need to have awareness of her surroundings and always keep her safe while she is enjoying the activities she loves.

It is important to give me a lot of guidance and reassurance and supervision. I have little awareness of danger and can be anxious in crowded places, particularly if I see large groups of teenagers,

During the week my routine is quite structured, and I take part in regular activities.  Sometimes I like to go further afield, for example, trips to the coast, Lightwater Valley, owl sanctuary.

We are looking for a compassionate, responsible Personal Assistant (PA) to support our daughter, Dua, a friendly, fun, and sociable almost 12-year-old with Apert Syndrome. Dua is fully dependent on a tracheostomy to maintain a safe airway, and she also has learning disabilities. Dua’s health condition requires careful attention to hygiene and PPE, including wearing a mask. The role will involve accompanying Dua in a taxi to and from school, ensuring her safety and well-being throughout the journey.

 

Essential Skills:

Awareness and experience of working with individuals with a tracheostomy.

Ability to react quickly and efficiently in emergencies.

Good hygiene practices and the ability to maintain a clean environment.

Willingness to engage in required training.

My name is Daniel, and I am 18 years old. I enjoy watching football, participating in sports, playing on Xbox, music (piano) and writing and performing songs (rap). I am an articulate and mature young person. I value my independence. At first, I can appear to be reserved but once I trust someone and get to know them, I can be chatty.

The purpose of this role is to provide 1:1 support to enable me to access and participate in activities in the community, such as sports (wheelchair rugby, basketball or gym sessions or wheelchair racing) or others. Your job will be to accompany me to these activities and provide any support when needed. The time slots available are mostly after 6 pm and there is an option for the right candidate to choose either Monday or Tuesday and the occasional Friday there will also be the opportunity to accompany me to a music concert.

As my Personal Assistant you will be accountable to me in all aspects of your work. The successful candidate needs to be willing to work with my family and undertake suitable training to be fully aware of my condition and needs. You must be reliable, be able to use your initiative. You must also be able to respect our privacy and understand the need for confidentiality in all areas of your work.

We are looking for someone sociable who has similar interests to me, with a valid and clean driving licence and their own transport. We consider patience, open mindedness, and enthusiasm to be essential attributes for this job. (Mileage will be covered)
