Would you like to make a positive difference to a young person’s life and to develop your skills as part of a small, professional team?

About the person we support

M is a fun-loving autistic young woman with a learning disability and complex emotional needs. M requires 2:1 support from her team to help her feel safe and supported. With the right support, M is funny, caring and sociable.

Currently, M’s week involves three days of education and four days of activities. Her preferred activities include going to the football, bowling, dancing, watching theatre shows and playing crazy golf. Although M finds it hard to relax, she enjoys listening to music, writing about her day, looking at photos and eating out.

M’s health needs combine to mean that she struggles to communicate effectively and can dysregulate very quickly. This can lead to behaviours of distress. M’s carers need to
be able to respond calmly and follow her Positive Behaviour Support Plan.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who has experience of following a Positive Behaviour Support Plan; and who is a great team player.

The team’s focus is on supporting M’s daily living skills and emotional stability and developing sustainable behaviour strategies. We promote choice, control and independence wherever possible.

You must be warm, compassionate and able to remain calm under pressure.

You must demonstrate an understanding of the challenges autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities face.

You should be computer literate.

You should be comfortable around dogs and pets.

We are based in a family home, between Kenton Bank Foot and Callerton Parkway metro stations. Ideally this will be your primary employment.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience
• You must have at least two years previous experience of working with autistic children or adults and be able to implement a positive behaviour plan
• You should be trained to NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or have equivalent experience)
• You will have an appropriate professional qualification and/or two years’ experience in a similar role
• You must be physically fit and active
• You must be authorised to work in the United Kingdom
• You must be resilient, compassionate and have great communication skills
• You will be a car driver with a valid UK driving licence and able to drive our mobility vehicle.

Benefits
• Part of a professional 24/7 team
• Clear goals for the team and your own personal objectives
• 6 weeks paid leave per annum
• Nest Pension Scheme
• Role related training programme, including opportunities for personal development
• Employee Assistance Programme
• Bike to work scheme
• Blue Light Card

Hours: 8 hours per week. Shifts are usually on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, with flexibility on days and times. There may be additional hours available during the week to cover holidays or sickness.

Wage:  £13.00 per hour

Location: Fenham, Newcastle upon Tyne

I am looking to employ an experienced Personal Assistant to support me in my home in the Fenham area of Newcastle (not far from the Morrisons store). This role is primarily home-based, but will involve some activity outside the home, such as local errands. The successful applicant will be confident working independently and experienced in providing personal care and domestic support.

Domestic Work
You will be required to carry out a range of domestic tasks around the home. These will include general cleaning such as dusting, vacuuming, and keeping work surfaces clean and tidy. You will also be responsible for laundry, including washing, drying, and ironing as required. Assistance with meal preparation may be needed, along with support bringing shopping into the home from local stores. Shopping is usually once per week, and a more thorough clean of the house will also be required weekly.

Personal Care
Personal care support will be required during every shift, so applicants must be experienced and comfortable providing personal care.

Morning shifts will usually start at around 7:30am to allow me to get up and ready for the day. It is essential that applicants can arrive on time, so this role may be best suited to someone who lives locally or has their own transport to get to and from work.
