Finley is a happy, energetic and boisterous boy who has a great sense of humour and a huge smile. Finley has diagnosis of Global Developmental Delay and Autism. He is non-verbal but can make his needs known in various ways such as taking someone’s hand and leading them to an item he wants. He can also make different vocalisations to show whether he is happy or sad.

To support his communication Finley is starting to use some core vocabulary symbols and can make his own choices from photographs. Finley can sometimes struggle with transitions and likes to be shown photographs of where he is going. Adults supporting Finley should use short sentences and key words.

Finley has a visual impairment which causes him to squint. He also has an unsteady gate, and his feet turn inwards when he walks and runs and can make it seem like he is going to topple over. Neither of these seem to cause him any distress or to need further support.

Finley LOVES being outdoors whatever the weather, wind and rain being his favourite. He likes climbing up high and watching different materials blow in the wind, especially flags. He likes swimming, parks and after being so active having some nice food. Finley needs his food cut up and support to eat using cutlery. He can put too much in his mouth at once and is at risk of choking.

Finley needs support with all of his personal care and constant supervision. He has no awareness of danger and is a very fast runner! Finley uses a wheelchair when he is being supported to access the community to keep him safe.

I am looking to employ a Personal Assistant to support me in my home in the Fenham area of Newcastle (not far from the Morrison’s store). The hours will be over the weekend and the hours can be flexible.  There will be extra hours available to cover holidays and sickness during the week. The job involves a range of tasks including personal care, domestic work around the home and some activity outside the home.

Domestic work

I will need you to do a variety of tasks around the home.  For example, cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, and keeping all work surfaces clean and tidy.  You will also need to do my laundry; all the washing/drying and ironing that needs doing.  I may need assistance with meal preparation and getting shopping in from local stores.  Shopping will generally be once per week and I will want a more thorough clean of the house once per week.

Personal Care

I will need help with a range of personal care tasks during every shift, so applicants should not have any qualms about providing personal care.  The morning shifts will be starting around 7.30am to give me time to get up.  It will be vital that applicants can get to my home in good time each morning, so the position may well be suited to someone who lives locally or has their own transport to get to and from work.

Daniel is a delightful happy 13-year-old lad with a great smile who lives with his dad in the west end of Newcastle. He loves being active and likes to be out and about and enjoys going to the beach, trampolining, swimming, and going to the park especially being on the swings. Daniel also loves travelling on public transport whether it’s the buses or the Metro. He is a big fan of water and is happiest spending time in his hot tub at home. Daniel is very stimulated with cause-and-effect games for example, when at the beach he loves to throw stones in the water just to see the splash.

Daniel has epilepsy which occurs in clusters and training will be provided to pre-empt these. He also has vestibular sensory balance which simply, makes him feel as if he is at sea constantly, he is also non-verbal, but he understands what you say and claps to communicate. Daniel has no awareness of danger, and the PAs will constantly need to be vigilant when with him and on occasions use his reins.

Ideally, dad would like PAs who are enthusiastic with a genuine interest and enjoyment in working with children and have some experience of working with disabled children.

A car driver in this role would be preferred but not essential and mileage would be reimbursed.
