Would you like to make a positive difference to a young person’s life and to develop your skills as part of a small, professional team?

About the person we support

M is a fun-loving autistic young woman with a learning disability and complex emotional needs. M requires 2:1 support from her team to help her feel safe and supported. With the right support, M is funny, caring and sociable.

Currently, M’s week involves three days of education and four days of activities. Her preferred activities include going to the football, bowling, dancing, watching theatre shows and playing crazy golf. Although M finds it hard to relax, she enjoys listening to music, writing about her day, looking at photos and eating out.

M’s health needs combine to mean that she struggles to communicate effectively and can dysregulate very quickly. This can lead to behaviours of distress. M’s carers need to
be able to respond calmly and follow her Positive Behaviour Support Plan.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who has experience of following a Positive Behaviour Support Plan; and who is a great team player.

The team’s focus is on supporting M’s daily living skills and emotional stability and developing sustainable behaviour strategies. We promote choice, control and independence wherever possible.

You must be warm, compassionate and able to remain calm under pressure.

You must demonstrate an understanding of the challenges autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities face.

You should be computer literate.

You should be comfortable around dogs and pets.

We are based in a family home, between Kenton Bank Foot and Callerton Parkway metro stations. Ideally this will be your primary employment.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience
• You must have previous experience of working with autistic children or adults and be able to implement a positive behaviour plan
• You should be trained to NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or have equivalent experience)
• You will have an appropriate professional qualification and/or two years’ experience in a similar role
• You must be physically fit and active
• You must be authorised to work in the United Kingdom
• You must be resilient, compassionate and have great communication skills
• Ideally you will be a car driver and have held a valid UK driving licence for a minimum of 5 years in order to drive our mobility vehicle.

Benefits
• Part of a professional 24/7 team
• Clear goals for the team and your own personal objectives
• 6 weeks paid leave per annum
• Nest Pension Scheme
• Role related training programme, including opportunities for personal development
• Employee Assistance Programme
• Bike to work scheme
• Blue Light Card

Driver with full clean UK licence essential

We are currently recruiting for two experienced personal assistants for a lovely young boy with Non – Verbal Autism & ADHD. Leo is 8 years old and always requires full supervision.  He currently resides with his mum and brother and attends a specialist school with support.  Leo has no awareness of danger and will run at every opportunity. This role would suit individuals highly experienced in working with children with autism and ADHD. You must be able to demonstrate strategies and coping mechanisms for this role.

Leo enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including spinning, swimming and trips to the local parks or SEND centres. He would like to visit and explore new venues with enclosed spaces to widen his experiences within the community.  He uses a specialist wheelchair to access the community, which is fitted with a harness. Routine is very important to Leo as he can dysregulate if sudden changes occur, and due to his non-verbal autism, he cannot tell you directly what is wrong. Leo uses hand gestures and leading to show and tell you his needs. Leo can become dysregulated so coping strategies to manage these must be demonstrated and implemented to ensure his safety. Leo can self-harm if he becomes dysregulated and can lash out. He enjoys a trip to McDonalds and his favourite food is chicken nuggets. He also recently learnt to ride an adapted bike which he loves, so centres that have these facilities is always a great shout.

There are no dietary requirements, however, sugar-based food and drinks are prohibited due to the adverse effects sugar has on Leo’s behaviours.

The main tasks within this role will include supporting Leo in accessing the local community, accompanying and supporting him to engage in his chosen activities, and personal care is required for after toilet cleaning.

We require a car driver with a full clean UK Driving Licence and business insurance.

Hours: Up to 4 hours Saturday/Sunday

Rate of pay: £14.00 per hour

About me.

Hi!

My name is Alf, I’m 10 years old, and my Mam and Dad are looking for a special person to hang out with me and take me on fun adventures!

I love gaming (seriously—I could talk about it for hours!), swimming, walks, the beach, trampolining, and anything that keeps me busy and having fun. Sometimes I find it hard to stay focused on things I’m not into, but if you love gaming or just having a laugh, we’ll get along great!

I have Autism and ADHD, which means sometimes I can get stressed, impulsive, or shout when I’m feeling overwhelmed—but don’t worry, my family can help you learn how to help me calm down again. I also have a younger brother, Charlie, who has Autism and a learning disability too. We love each other but sometimes need space apart, which is where you come in!

What I’m looking for:

  • Someone kind, patient, and fun who loves to keep busy.
  • Someone who enjoys gaming!
  • Someone who can help me regulate when I’m stressed or upset (don’t worry, you’ll get advice and support from my grown-ups too).
  • Ideally someone with experience of Autism and ADHD.
  • A driver (preferred) who can take me to cool places like the park, beach, trampoline parks or even just for an ice cream.

The Role:

  • You’ll be my Personal Assistant—helping me have fun, explore new activities, and giving me some chill time away from home.
  • Hours are mostly weekends, around 4 hours, but we’re flexible and can chat about what works for you.
  • During school holidays, we might be able to plan even more fun adventures together.

If you’re caring, full of energy, love gaming, and want to make a real difference in a young lad’s life, then I’d love to meet you!
