This is a great opportunity to make a positive di4erence to a young person’s life and to develop your skills as part of a small, professional team.

About my life

I am a fun-loving autistic young adult with complex needs. I require 2:1 support from my care team to help me feel safe and supported, so that I can fulfil my potential. With the right support I am funny, caring and sociable.

My week involves three days of education and four days of activities. This includes a day at social care, and two half-days at work placement. My preferred activities include seeing my friends, going to the football, bowling, dancing, and watching theatre shows. I like listening to music, playing Uno, writing, and eating out. I can be persuaded to walk my dogs.

My health needs combine to mean that I struggle to communicate and can dysregulate very quickly. I can then display behaviours of distress. My carers need to be able to respond calmly and compassionately and follow my Positive Behaviour Support Plan.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone outstanding in delivering Positive Behaviour Support and who is a great team player.

As a team, our aim is to enhance A’s quality of life and develop sustainable behaviour strategies. The team’s focus is on supporting daily living skills and emotional stability. We promote choice, control and independence wherever possible.

You must be warm, compassionate and able to remain calm under pressure. You must demonstrate an understanding of the challenges autistic people and people with intellectual disabilities face.

You should be computer literate. You should be comfortable around dogs and pets.

We are based in a family home, between Kenton Bank Foot and Callerton Parkway metro stations. Ideally this will be your primary employment

I am a 47-year-old lady looking for a very special person to be my PA. I live in the Newcastle area with my mum. The right PA will help support me and help me navigate life’s daily challenges and always maintain strict confidentiality.

I sustained a serious head injury 20+ years ago and have since suffered from cognitive and physical difficulties. I use a wheelchair outside of the home and other mobility aids within the house. The cognitive issues I have are related to the brain injury and cause problems including a very poor memory, information processing difficulties, poor planning and organisational skills, anxiety and fatigue.

I require my PA to be a patient and understanding individual who can detect my anxiety or fatigue and work at my pace. I live with chronic and constant pain but try and work through it to enjoy life and all my activities. I take medication for my pain and anxiety and would expect my PA to help me manage ordering and dispensing it if necessary. I communicate well verbally but that can sometimes be misleading for others who don’t understand the hidden aspect of cognitive problems. I can also communicate well using text, email, and writing but don’t have much confidence when using the phone. I have some problems following and keeping up with conversations especially in a large group and I need to have conversations repeated quite often due to my poor memory and slow processing ability.

Patience, understanding, compassion, reliability and humility are required of my PA, along with good communication skills and a bubbly personality.

I like listening to a wide variety of music genres and would like to plan trips to see my favourite artists…. though I rarely have the stamina to go out at night. I like to have my nails done at the salon and enjoy activities including bowling, going to the gym, the cinema, and shopping etc. I also like visiting cafes and restaurants, mostly in daytime. In nicer weather I like a trip to the beach or the farm or just a drive out in the car.

A car driver is essential for this post. For insurance purposes they must be over 25 years old to drive my mobility car. They must have a full clean driving licence and have some driving experience.

A good level of fitness is necessary to push lift and manoeuvre my wheelchair if required.
