I’m looking for the right person to support my son, Leon, not just anyone, but someone who truly appreciates him for who he is.

Leon is a young man with a wicked sense of humour and a very strong personality. He will absolutely test the waters, and if he senses fear or uncertainty, he will take advantage, so confidence is key. That said, if you’re calm, consistent, and fair, Leon responds beautifully. He needs someone firm but kind, with a good sense of humour and the ability to laugh things off rather than escalate them.

Leon is much better suited to a 1 to 1 environment. He does not enjoy groups or loud, boisterous people. He thrives with someone who is calm, steady, and not rushed, who doesn’t talk too loudly and knows when to give space.

Leon has:

  • Severe learning difficulties
  • Autism
  • Sensory processing difficulties
  • Hypermobility
  • 15q13.3 microdeletion

Too much walking makes him very tired, and when he’s tired or overstimulated, his behaviour can become challenging. In busy or crowded places, he always wears ear defenders, and if things become too much, he may sit or lie down and refuse to move. This isn’t defiance, it’s communication.

Leon does not respond well to being told off. It makes him feel guilt and shame, which can escalate situations. He needs someone who understands positive behaviour support and can manage challenging behaviour without confrontation.

Getting to know Leon means sharing in the things that bring him joy:

  • Talking endlessly about his dogs (he loves dogs!)
  • Cinema trips
  • Edinburgh Zoo
  • York Train Museum
  • Lightwater Valley
  • Rebound therapy
  • Being out and about at his own pace
  • Disney & Pixar films
  • Lilidorei and Alnwick Gardens
  • Crazy golf
  • Pizza Hut
  • Hydrotherapy pools
  • Sensory rooms
  • Gaming

Job Title: Personal Assistant (Part-Time)

Role Overview

Type of Employment: Part-time (Approximately 12 hours per week)

Schedule: Ideally over 5 to 6 days. Generally, after 11am and finish before 6pm. 8 to 10 hours in person, 2 to 4 remote admin/prompting. Some flexibility required but usually daytimes for admin, help with cleaning and life organisation.

Location: Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Rate: £15.00 per hour

Overview

I am a 45-year-old professional with a dynamic range of experiences—including English teaching/lecturing, freelance writing, advice and guidance work, and DJing in the jungle drum and bass/techno scenes. I live with invisible disabilities such as ADHD, autism, chronic musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and related mental health challenges. Although these challenges are dynamic and not always immediately visible, they require understanding, sensitivity, and reliability from the right support professional. This role is designed for someone who can provide robust administrative, technological, and advocacy support to help me regain pace and maintain my independence.

I need you to work when you’re here, even though I won’t be. I have LCWRA because of hidden disabilities, so my day doesn’t have to be built around work or particular goals. It’s about acting as my arms to wash up or as my attention span and patience during a phone call, reminding me to eat and drink water, improving my quality of life by helping me to live it at my own pace, according to my own values: working class atheist, childfree, not spiritual, not traditional, former English teacher and freelance writer, currently run events and DJ when able to.

£15.00 an hour. I wish I could pay more, but that’s all they give me. (You’re employed by me, paid by disability north, funded by the council.)

You’re in my life, essentially. It’s a lot. It’s not a skive. Some days you will be staying out of my way while I get ready and do whatever I’m doing that day. Other days, you will be helping me to actually get ready. It depends on what my disability decides I need that day. Most of the time it’s admin, phone calls, cleaning, advocacy, or light housework and dull chores that require more than one person.

The ability to understand and respond to complex English is essential. Accents okay, but clear English is a must.

This is not a conventional PA role. While I strive for an egalitarian working relationship, when you are “at work” your focus is to follow clear instructions, handle tasks professionally, and abide by the boundaries of this uniquely supportive dynamic.

This post is subject to a satisfactory DBs check and references which will be taken up if you are offered the post.

Hello, I am the Mam of an amazing little boy called Toby, and I am looking for a kind, patient and playful Personal Assistant to help support him when we are out and about and occasionally at home.

Toby is 5 years old and a very happy little boy who experiences the world in his own unique way. He is non-verbal but communicates through laughter, excited screeches and big smiles. Toby has an extreme learning disability and requires a high level of support throughout the day.

Toby is full of personality and brings so much joy to the people around him. He enjoys engaging with the world through the things that make him happy and feels most comfortable with people who are calm, caring and understanding of his needs.

Toby loves anything with wheels or that spins. He enjoys sensory activities such as lights, bubbles and his spinning chair, and he finds these really calming and engaging. At school he enjoys time on the trampoline, and at home he loves to be outdoors swinging, bouncing and exploring the fresh air. Toby also enjoys sitting with books and being read to.
