Hours: 32 hours per three weekends per year

Rate of Pay: £13.08 per hour

We are currently looking to recruit a Support Worker/enabler to provide support for a gentleman in the Blyth area. The support is needed over three weekends per year, to spend time at home whilst the parents have a respite break away, this is required overnight, over a weekend. The support will take place at home with all personal care, meals and medication and to support with accessing the community.

Support is required over three weekends per year – from approximately Saturday 10am, sleep-in Saturday night and then support on a Sunday to approximately 6pm = 32 hours per weekend over three weekends per year.

This gentleman lives at home with his parents in a large bungalow with an uncle who lives next door and often pops in and out to help with support. He has a learning disability and suffers from epilepsy which is controlled via medication and uses a powered wheelchair and sometimes requires help to guide this in the right direction. He is not able to make his needs known and relies on his parents for everyday living. He has a quiet personality, enjoys being out and about and eating out – his favourite food is curry. He can manage to use his left arm to eat and drink but needs some assistance

MAIN DUTIES

  • Support at home with personal care, including shower/bathing, getting up washed and dressed and then undressed for bed etc.
  • To assist with getting up and getting into bed.
  • To support with all continence issues and the use of a Convene Catheter
  • Support to maintain to live at home whilst parents have some much-needed respite away.
  • Support with all moving and handling aspects, a ceiling track hoist is in place and client is always a wheelchair user.
  • Support with medication and all healthcare related tasks.
  • Support with all aspects of daily living and cannot be left unsupervised.

Person Specification

Successful applicant must:

  • Have experience of supporting people with a learning disability.
  • Have experience and an understanding of epilepsy.
  • Have some understanding of moving and handling, however full training will be provided.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence as access to a mobility vehicle is part of this role.
  • Have some understanding of supporting people who have communication difficulties.

An Enhanced DBS Check is required for this post, cost will be met by Northumberland County Council.
