My name is Summer; I am registered blind and live in Newcastle with my husband and our eight children. our oldest is in year 8 and our youngest are baby twins. Three of our children also have autism and ADHD. In my very limited free time, I enjoy watching soaps, singing, listen to audiobooks and watching Disney movies. I am looking for an easy-going and friendly personal assistant to help me in my day-to-day life.

Your main jobs will be: Being My Eyes when out and about, This involves driving my large nine seat vehicle, Guiding me when out and about (this might also include helping me push the double pushchair), accompanying me to baby groups and classes, my youngest children’s swimming lessons which involve coming in the pool with me and guiding me around, helping with shopping and letting me know what my children are doing if we are at places like the park or soft play, and coming with me on the school run.

I will also need someone to help with domestic tasks like cooking, cleaning and organising the general chaos which is my home. I am looking for someone to work 9 am till 4:30 pm Monday and Tuesday, 9:30 am till 6:30 pm Thursday, 9 am till 5 pm Friday, and every other Saturday from 10 am until 4 pm.

Job share opportunities are available.

You’ll need to drive my Motability car.

The purpose of this job is to support my son. Your job will be to provide him with the personal and social assistance that he needs. My son is a happy lively boy who really enjoys spending time in places where he can ‘people watch’, being out and about walking, going to parks to use the swings, trampolining, the ball pool in soft play centres and travelling on buses and metro’s.

My son can be nervous in unfamiliar places and may want to hold hands with the person supporting him.  My son can be very determined if there is something that he wants, wants to do, or doesn’t want to do and it can be challenging distracting him or persuading him against something. He also has no awareness of danger and will run, very quickly, towards something that catches his attention.

As my son’s Personal Assistant, you will work under my direction to meet his needs and will be accountable to me in all aspects of your work.  You must be reliable, be able to use your initiative and be able to work flexible hours.  You must also be able to respect our privacy and have an understanding of the need for confidentiality in all areas of your work.

The main purpose of this job is to enable T Jay to take part in activities that he wants to do. You will provide support to T Jay in activities, both inside and outside the home. T Jay is a happy, chatty 13-year-old boy who likes to play games on his phone that involves racing cars or aeroplanes. He also likes to be out and about, either on his bike, playing basketball or visiting the CTRL Pad, a gaming place in The Gate.

When out and about T Jay needs to be supervised closely particularly regarding his road sense. He also likes to get all his toys out especially his figures, to play with and loves to line them all up and he likes participating in games especially passing the ball. Recently he has developed an interest in drawing. T Jay is a big fan of Matt Monro and loves playing ‘Born Free’ and ‘Gonna Build a Mountain’.

T Jay is open to suggestions of activities and will let you know if he doesn’t want to do something.  A large part of the job will be to participate with T Jay in any activities so he can get the most from them. T Jay likes to be independent and pay for things himself but has a limited understanding of money so ensure that he receives the correct amount of change.

Patience and enthusiasm are essential attributes for this job.

About the Role

I am currently seeking a personal assistant to support me access the community and keep me safe whilst out, I have Epilepsy with various levels of seizures so you must be experienced in working with individuals with Epilepsy and be able to demonstrate your knowledge of seizure identification.

I currently reside with my parents, brother and nephew and I have two old English bulldogs, you must be an animal lover and not frightened of reptiles including snakes and spiders as I keep these as pets too. I do have episodes of depression on occasion.

 

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care Support

  • There are no personal care duties in this role, but I may require prompts or assistance after seizures.

Daily Living Support

  • Assistance with social activities and accessing the community.
  • I manage my own medication, but you must be able to identify my medications and what they are prescribed for.
  • Places I enjoy include, trips to Newcastle to go shopping or to visit my favourite restaurants, bowling, the beach in the warmer months but I do not like the sand, I prefer the arcades and Spanish City, I enjoy the cinema and enjoy a variety of film types, I do really enjoy a good comedy, and I enjoy crazy golf.
  • If I prefer to stay indoors, I enjoy gaming, listening to various music artists and watching TV, I love Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Mobility & Transport

  • Support to access and navigate public transport.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence is essential if you are a driver.

About Me (Kaitlin)

I am a very sociable young woman who enjoys my independence, my mum has been a great support, but I am ready to go solo and make my own adventures with the right person supporting me. I love shopping and going out for food, I love a good carbonara at the Italian restaurant. I am naturally a chatterbox and love a good chat about a wide range of topics, I enjoy laughing and having a good belly laugh, whether its about life in general or watching a good comedy together. My epilepsy can be quite severe at times, and I can have absent seizures where even I am unaware that they are happening, but there are tell tale signs that you must look out for. I communicate verbally well, however I do sometime have difficulty pronouncing words so you must be patient and strive to understand certain words I find difficult. I understand everything you say.

My PA must have a good sense of humour and be able to see the funny side of life, I am looking for a long-term PA who I can build a good rapport with and who I can enjoy being around. I must tell you I am a little bit of a Diva, but all the best people are! I would love to hear back from you to see if we could be a double trouble duet, and “Diva” together as we navigate through our adventures.
