Training hours

  • Monday: 7:30 – 8:30 pm
  • Friday: 6:00 – 8:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 – 12:00 pm (occasionally in Sunderland)
  • Sunday: 12:00 – 3:00 pm
  • Sunday (occasional) 8:00am – 2:00pm

Pay rate: £12.21 per hour plus 45 pence per mile (if using own transport)

 

About the Role:
I am looking for a supportive and reliable personal assistant to help me attend my swimming training sessions with Richmond Dales at Catterick and occasionally at Sunderland on Saturdays. The role involves transport support, general assistance at training, and ensuring a smooth experience during sessions.

Beyond swimming, I have a passion for music, sports, cars, motorbikes, cycling, and mountain biking. If you share similar interests, that’s a bonus!

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing transport and support to training sessions
  • Assisting with any practical needs before, during, and after training
  • Helping with organisation and planning for competitions or events
  • Supporting social and recreational activities

Ideal Candidate:

  • Has a full UK driving licence and is comfortable driving to Catterick & Sunderland 45 miles – return 90 miles.
  • If no driving licence, a companion bus pass is available
  • Punctual, dependable, and supportive
  • Shares an interest in sports, cars, or music (preferred but not essential)
  • Understanding of disability support (or willing to learn)

I am a female young professional and live in Heworth, York. I have a physical disability and I require some help with everyday tasks and personal care. (My arms don’t work very well!).

Our 15-year-old son is cheeky, lively and knows what he likes. We are looking for an assistant to support him to socialise, develop friendships and enjoy life in our local community. This role is required because he has a learning disability (due to Autism and Down Syndrome) and is unable to verbally communicate or keep himself safe.

Some of the things that he may need support with include:

  • Communication using Makaton and/or an AAC app on his iPad
  • Visits to the toilet (changing soiled nappies if required) and support with toilet training.
  • Support to use cutlery including cutting up food if out for a meal/snack
  • Support to make appropriate choices in everyday life; e.g. selecting food
  • Cleaning face/hands after eating if necessary
  • Going to the park and supporting on play equipment, bike/trike rides
  • Playing football or other organised group sports or afterschool activity
  • Supporting him in out of school activities

He enjoys activities like playing checkers (draughts), climbing at climbing walls, and going for walks to explore cafes, have a bite to eat, or browse around town while shopping. He is also open to discovering new hobbies and interests with the right guidance and encouragement, which will be a key part of your role.

 

About the individual:

  • He loves engaging conversations and thrives when he has someone open-minded and interesting to chat with.
  • He would benefit from getting back into swimming, an activity he used to enjoy. This would also help address sensory challenges related to personal hygiene.
  • While he knows his own mind, he is open to being encouraged and guided to expand his hobbies and interests further.
  • He has experience with interviewing and would like to be involved in the recruitment process for this role.
