Hours of work: 1 hour per week plus additional to cover staff absence and holidays.

Rate of pay: £12.60 per hour

 

Job purpose:

To assist with a variety of tasks which will enable/assist me in all aspects of daily living including accompanying me to swimming sessions, supporting me with making important telephone calls due to my hearing impairment, and accompanying me to enjoy time with my daughter on days out.

I am a wheelchair user so a good level of fitness would be required to push and manoeuvre me safely, you would also need to be able to lift the chair into a car if you are a driver, a driver would be advantageous for this role, but it is not essential, as I can access public transport.

About the employer:

I am a 54-year-old wife and mother.

I enjoy going out to the shops, you would be expected to describe and assist me with choosing items I require, watching soaps and I enjoy a trip to the coast in the Summer. I like spend time reading braille or listening to audio books, I also enjoy knitting.

My husband, my 20-year-old daughter and I are all severely sight impaired and are currently waiting for a Guide dog to further assist us.   We have a small team of PA’s who support us as a family.

We are a pet Friendly household with 2 cats currently.

 

Main duties:

Domestic Duties

  • Support with laundry, including bed changing.
  • Support with housework, hoover, polish, cleaning bathroom, kitchen etc
  • Chop, prepare food and meals.
  • Pick up Prescriptions.
  • Support to clean up after animals if needed.

 

Social Duties

  • Accompany me to the shops.
  • Accompany me to social activities.
  • Go food shopping with or without me.
  • Support me to go clothes shopping, act as my sighted guide and describe items.
  • Accompany me to swimming sessions.

Other Duties

  • Read and help respond to mail if needed.
  • Assist me reading or doing things on the computer.
  • Some personal care around bathing/showering and washing my hair.
  • Support me to attend any appointments.
  • Assist me with making telephone calls.
  • Physical support to guide me when walking, ensure I can rest in my wheelchair if needed.
  • Push my manual wheelchair safely.

These duties may vary from day to day, and it is important that you have a flexible approach to your work.

Positions: Personal Assistant

Location: Heworth, York (YO31)

Wage: £13.50 per hour

Hours: 

Monday and Thursday 4.15pm – 7.15pm (+/- 15min)

Friday 10.30am – 3pm

Saturday and Sunday availability required.

Flexibility required due to nature of the role. Extra hours available to cover holidays/absence within the team. 

Shifts expected to be shared between 2 new team members, according to availability.

Seeking 2 new permanent members of a team of personal assistants to support a disabled solo parent in their early 30s to live life independently and to the fullest possible. Role requires some personal care support (not toileting), light housekeeping, help with cooking/meal prep, food shopping, accessing the community, and more. I may also require help to physically enact some of my parenting role – such as lifting my child into or out of the car, support around teeth brushing or putting on footwear. Opportunities to support days out or travel within the country may also occur.

Applicants must bring enthusiasm, confidence, capacity to be self-motivated and work semi-independently at times, be comfortable working around young children, comfort with LGBT+ people, excellent communication skills in both written and spoken English…and openness to impromptu dancing happening.

I am a lady in my early 50’s but young at heart. I have an interest in health and fitness. Particularly walking, gym, swimming, and cycling. I enjoy cooking and like to prepare fresh and healthy food. I enjoy a variety of activities that include visiting Historical places and nature reserves, under the National Trust and engage in Mindfulness activities and courses regularly.

I enjoy visiting places such as the clothes exchange in Leeds.

 

About the role:

It is important to me that the role is approached from an adaptable and flexible viewpoint. Some days I may require more support than others.

The role is very much about doing things together. I do not require a carer or someone to do things for me.

 

About You

You will be calm and encouraging with the ability to read situations where I may be feeling overwhelmed.

You will be able to break down tasks into small simple instructions.

You will have an understanding on how autism affects girls/women or a willingness to learn.

You will have good communication skills.

Ideally you will be someone with an interest in health and fitness, possibly enjoy cycling, horse riding and other outdoor activities.
