Personal Assistant Wanted – 9 Hours per Week

Location: York

Hourly Rate: £12.60 + mileage expenses

Full UK driving licence and own vehicle essential

I am a disabled lady seeking a reliable, supportive Personal Assistant to help me for 9 hours per week. Most of the support I need is with admin and dyslexia-related tasks, as well as occasional practical help due to arthritis, and driving me with my medical assistance dog to appointments.

I am intelligent and organised, and I manage and delegate the tasks I need. This role is about enabling me to stay independent and supported, not about personal care or meal preparation.

About the Role

  • Supporting with basic admin and secretarial IT tasks, including use of laptops and iPhones.
  • Helping me to access and navigate York Council, Gov.UK, NHS, and York Medical Group GP websites.
  • Competent in note-taking, research, reading, arithmetic, and financial IT skills.
  • Driving me and my assistance dog to appointments (mileage paid on top of hourly wage).
  • Driving me and my assistance dog to shops that are inaccessible to me.
  • Providing practical support with small tasks when arthritis makes them difficult.
  • Offering patient, clear communication – I am hard of hearing and rely mainly on lip reading and face-to-face interaction.

About You

  • Confident with IT, admin, and online services.
  • Good local knowledge of York and the surrounding areas.
  • Comfortable around both dogs and cats (this role is not suitable for allergy sufferers).
  • Has a suitable car for transporting me and my assistance dog.
  • Calm, understanding, and supportive in your approach.
  • Ideally, holds a First Aid Certificate (due to my medical conditions, though I do not need medication support).

Hours: 6 hours per week including weekends

Area: York

Rate: £12.60 per hour

Alfie is a 6-year-old little boy who has a diagnosis of autism, he  is non-verbal and does suffer bowel issues and has pica. Alfie is not potty trained. Alfie loves to be outside in parks, he especially enjoys swings, and this really helps regulate him. He is a placid little soul with a gentle nature but recently he has becoming strong-willed he doesn’t want to do something and he will let you know as will pull you with such force (very strong). Alfie enjoys trips out especially the Magna museum water area, he loves water and exploring. Alfie has no awareness of danger and requires full supervision at all times and needs to hold your hand unless in a secure area. Alfie has PICA and likes to eat plants and strings, especially hessian material. He must be always supervised, and these items need removed if he attempts to eat them. Alfie has a very beige diet, he does not eat a proper meal at all, he eats snacks which include crackers, breadsticks, apples and yoghurts.

Alfie does enjoy a good cuddle when he is having quiet time, and he loves to watch Ben & Holly or Peppa pig. Alfie suffers severe sleep issues which requires prevention from napping during the day, even if he has had a bad night, this is under the instruction of Sheffield children’s hospital. Alfie is a happy little boy generally and likes to be around others but not where it is too busy as this can overwhelm him. Alfie also enjoys car rides with music on, he likes to rock in the car he also enjoys trampolines and bouncy castles, he is not a fan of shoes and can remove them at any given point, but we encourage him to keep them on for safety.

Winnie is a 4-year-old little girl with such sass. Winnie has a diagnosis of autism, speech delay and suspected PDA (pathological demand attention). Winnie is not potty trained, but we want to try soon to introduce toilet training.  Winnie is also under Sheffield children hospital for sleep. Winnie loves to be out and about and likes to go to the park and play on most things. She always has her comfort toys: her toy bunny (who looks a little raggy now), she calls him teddy and has had him since birth, a ladybird teddy who she has called Gaston, and a toy banana. She likes to have these items go everywhere with her and they keep her calm. It can be tricky watching she doesn’t misplace  or lose them as she tends to leave them in view of other children who are curious. Winnie can talk a little but not full sentences. Winnie enjoys making her own little games up, she has quite the imagination. She enjoys music, dancing and Peppa Pig, Ben & Holly, Hey Duggee and nursery rhymes. Winnie likes the alphabet and numbers.

Winnie has suspected PDA, and her demands can be quite tricky to manage she has a temper and can go from 0-10 instantly, she can become violent and hit out. Distraction is key and trying to keep a boundary as at times Winnie can push them. Winnie can be cuddly and show love and affection. She enjoys going to the farm, piglets and other day trips like Deep.  Winnie sees no danger and runs off but refuses to hold hands, this can be very hard to manage and unsafe at times. I rely heavily on the car to transport her and Alfie as both are not safe.

We are looking for an experienced personal assistant with experience in Autism, to join us on fun days out, building up a rapport and confidence to take either child out solo so they both get to experience 1-2-1 support with their chosen activities as they both vary so much.
