Disability North is a free Independent Living Service which promotes social inclusion, independence and choice for disabled and older people in the North East of England and Cumbria. Disability North is a user led registered charity which works with, and for, disabled people, empowering them to maximise the control they have over their own lives.
Our Service Team can provide information and advice on equipment and activities for daily living (ADL), benefits and Direct Payments as well as advising on many other aspects of disability and signposting to other organisations who can help.
Our Mission: Disability North promotes inclusion, independence and choice for disabled people in the region.
Our Vision: To be the best resource on disability in the North.

Alan Shearer Centre Open Day at Disability North TODAY!!!!
Senior staff from the Alan Shearer Centre will be waiting to welcome you to their Open Day at Disability North on Friday, 29 August between 10am and 2pm in the first of a series of events to showcase the Centre’s exceptional services for disabled people.

Great North Run 2014 - Support Us!
Disability North is a local charity that needs your support to keep its services open to all who may need them. Please consider sponsoring Dianne Cowen (Chief Executive Officer) and Carolyn Forster (Information & Advice Officer) who are doing the Great North Run, on behalf of Disability North, for the third time!!!
The difference this year is that Carolyn will be completing the event on foot, not in a wheelchair! 2 years after surgery on her back and neck, Carolyn will be attempting to cross the finishing line under her own steam. To find out more click here.

A NEW music gig, the Middlehaven Festival, has hit a high note before headline act The Feeling take to the stage, as it is in line to be awarded silver accreditation for its disabled facilities.
It has been praised by the charity Attitude is Everything for providing level boardwalks and wheelchair access, specialist toilets, hoisting and changing facilities, as well as providing a hearing loop along with a sensory ‘chill out’ area and extensive medical services on site.
