Disability North is a free Independent Living Service which promotes social inclusion, independence and choice for disabled and older people in the North East of England and Cumbria. Disability North is a user led registered charity which works with, and for, disabled people, empowering them to maximise the control they have over their own lives.
Our Service Team can provide information and advice on equipment and activities for daily living (ADL), benefits and Direct Payments as well as advising on many other aspects of disability and signposting to other organisations who can help.
Our Mission: Disability North promotes inclusion, independence and choice for disabled people in the region.
Our Vision: To be the best resource on disability in the North.

Disability and Industrial Society Focus Groups
Disability and Industrial Society is a project, funded by the Wellcome Trust. Focusing on the coal industry, the project investigates how understandings and experiences of disability were affected by industrial development from the 1780s until the end of the Second World War.
To investigate this in the region the North East team have organised two free to attend focus groups taking place at Disability North, on the 18 and 19 March 2014 between 11am-3pm (lunch is provided).

Do You Use a Mobility Scooter?
Rica, an independent research charity for older and disabled people, is conducting a survey of scooter users on behalf of the UK Department for Transport. If you regularly use a mobility scooter (you don't have to own one) then we'd like to hear from you.
The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete and will help us understand who uses mobility scooters and what their reasons are.
Respondents will be entered into a prize draw to win £50 worth of shopping vouchers. You can answer anonymously if you choose, but will need to supply contact details to be entered.
The deadline for responses is February 28th.
