About the Role:

As a Support Worker/Buddy, you’ll have the rewarding opportunity to work closely with a very happy and chilled 13-year-old male who has Global Developmental Delay and Autism. He lives with his loving family, including his parents, brother, and family Labrador. Your main role will be to provide support primarily during school holidays, encouraging community engagement, and fostering independence outside of the home environment.

Hours: 10 hours per week with possibility of additional hours

I am a female wheelchair user with a Spinal Cord Injury living in the Fawdon area of Newcastle upon Tyne with my husband, daughter and small dog. I’m looking for a female Personal Assistant who can fit easily into our lives and assist me with daily living.

You will be joining a team of PAs, who mainly work a variety of shifts during the week, and occasionally I might need you to work at the weekend. In addition, there will be PA holiday and sickness to cover.

Brief details of the job

I need assistance with all aspects of daily living: transfers to and from wheelchair using a hoist or transfer board. Personal care. Food preparation. Walking my dog. Gardening. Driving my car. Shopping and accompanying me to appointments.

Mohmin is a lovely 16-year-old young boy. He enjoys being at home with his family and spending time on his own researching new things on his tablet or phone. Mohmin has ASD and mobility issues so relies on a wheelchair for his mobility. He  has a very good memory, and he can remember all the FIFA football teams, the countries and their football players. Mohmin likes to play FIFA, he is also good at Capital Cities and will happily share his knowledge of them.

Mohmin knows many interesting facts that he likes to research, and he shares these facts with his friends and family. He is good at spelling words, and he likes to write, he likes to share funny stories, and he has started to make up his own jokes, he will seek out members of his family and go and share funny stories with them. Mohmin likes to play on his electronic tablet. He enjoys looking up facts on ‘Google’ and he is particularly interested in biography books, cars, trucks, football cards and Lego.

Mohmin is looking For a PA that can share his experiences and encourage him to attend outside activities away from the family home to aid his social skills. He would like to go swimming, visit the park, attend a football match or two and is keen to explore the Handcock Museum, the local libraries and other local venues, he is keen to start horse-riding and would love the opportunity to get back in the saddle.

We are looking for an experienced individual with a background in working with children with Autism and you must be physically fit enough to manage a wheelchair and assist Mohmin in and out of his chair. Some personal care will be involved in this role including toileting.
