About me

Hello, my name is Luan I am LGBTQ+ 22 year old disabled autistic student studying Maths and Statistics full time at the University of Newcastle, I am also a wheelchair user. The most important things to know about me is that I am creative, love art and volunteer with both Mermaids UK and The Scouting Association in my free time as I am deeply passionate about the work they both do.

Up until I moved to university in September, I was living with in my family home so the adjustment to independent life has been a struggle. The two main conditions I live with are Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Myalgic Encephalomyelitis which both cause me a myriad of symptoms which impact me daily. I am looking for a Personal Assistant who can assist me and improve my quality of life and live my days to the fullest.

Tasks

An average day being my Personal Assistant would look like preparing meals, filling up my water bottle, light housework to keep my living space tidy, assistance showering and other personal hygiene tasks.

I am looking for a compassionate, empathetic and understanding individual who is trustworthy, kind and able to see me as a whole person. I don’t want to feel like a task that needs checking off, I am a whole human being and would love to have someone I can depend upon, joke around with and also feel safe. It would be preferable if this individual would be willing to be open to learning about my conditions (very basic levels) and understand how their assistance can best be of benefit to me instead of doing everything for me. I like to be independent and having care does not remove that need, I just need some extra help to be able to do so safely, reliably and consistently.
