I am looking for a Personal Assistant to work with my 13-year-old daughter. She is a friendly girl who is very active and loves being outside. She likes to play on the trampoline, going to the park, on the swings, being pushed in her buggy, playing with her pram and dolls, loves soft play, and listening to music.

The main part of this role is to support and supervise my daughter when she wants to access the local community, as well as social interaction at home. She is Autistic and epileptic so experience of autism and epilepsy would be preferred.

A very important part of your role will be to ensure her safety.  She has no awareness of danger, so you must take extra care when you are out in the community.  My daughter also has emergency medication for seizures that last longer than 5 minutes or for a cluster of seizures within a period of time. Anyone working with her will require training in relation to her seizures.

My daughter likes to be around happy enthusiastic people so you should be confident and outgoing.  As the Personal Assistant you will work mainly alongside me and under my direction to meet my daughter’s needs.

About the Role

I am currently seeking a personal assistant to support me access the community and keep me safe whilst out, I have Epilepsy with various levels of seizures so you must be experienced in working with individuals with Epilepsy and be able to demonstrate your knowledge of seizure identification.

I currently reside with my parents, brother and nephew and I have two old English bulldogs, you must be an animal lover and not frightened of reptiles including snakes and spiders as I keep these as pets too. I do have episodes of depression on occasion.

 

Key Responsibilities

Personal Care Support

  • There are no personal care duties in this role, but I may require prompts or assistance after seizures.

Daily Living Support

  • Assistance with social activities and accessing the community.
  • I manage my own medication, but you must be able to identify my medications and what they are prescribed for.
  • Places I enjoy include, trips to Newcastle to go shopping or to visit my favourite restaurants, bowling, the beach in the warmer months but I do not like the sand, I prefer the arcades and Spanish City, I enjoy the cinema and enjoy a variety of film types, I do really enjoy a good comedy, and I enjoy crazy golf.
  • If I prefer to stay indoors, I enjoy gaming, listening to various music artists and watching TV, I love Mrs Brown’s Boys.

Mobility & Transport

  • Support to access and navigate public transport.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence is essential if you are a driver.

About Me (Kaitlin)

I am a very sociable young woman who enjoys my independence, my mum has been a great support, but I am ready to go solo and make my own adventures with the right person supporting me. I love shopping and going out for food, I love a good carbonara at the Italian restaurant. I am naturally a chatterbox and love a good chat about a wide range of topics, I enjoy laughing and having a good belly laugh, whether its about life in general or watching a good comedy together. My epilepsy can be quite severe at times, and I can have absent seizures where even I am unaware that they are happening, but there are tell tale signs that you must look out for. I communicate verbally well, however I do sometime have difficulty pronouncing words so you must be patient and strive to understand certain words I find difficult. I understand everything you say.

My PA must have a good sense of humour and be able to see the funny side of life, I am looking for a long-term PA who I can build a good rapport with and who I can enjoy being around. I must tell you I am a little bit of a Diva, but all the best people are! I would love to hear back from you to see if we could be a double trouble duet, and “Diva” together as we navigate through our adventures.

Car Driver Essential

 

Paul is a lovely gentleman who resides with his nana, he is looking to employ a personal assistant who will have a flexible approach to supporting him within the home and accessing the community.

Paul has a diagnosis of Autism, ADHD, Dyspraxia and Sensory Processing Disorder, he also has a phobia to germs and is quite clinical in his hand washing routines which have caused psoriasis.

Paul is fitted with a colostomy bag which requires changing and managing. Experience of managing colostomy bags would be advantageous to this role. Experience of working with ASD is essential.

Paul is a keen Lego and War Hammer fan and really enjoys building the models. He also enjoys spending time gaming online. Paul will on occasion venture to the shops to purchase Lego magazines and you would be expected to accompany him to such trips; you would also be required to accompany him to scheduled appointments and assist Paul in making appointments for himself. Paul will venture to the Metro Centre on occasions and enjoys a KFC or McDonalds on his outings.

As part of your role, you will be assisting Paul with personal care, including showering if he chooses and beard maintenance, Paul will require prompts with choosing appropriate clothing and dressing but will indicate if clothes are unsuitable due to him being uncomfortable.

Meal preparation will be included within your role, and the ability to coach and encourage Paul to prepare food himself will be required. You will assist and encourage Paul to complete online shopping orders to encourage his independence.

Some light domestic tasks may be required including, laundry and bed changing.

Car Driver essential as Paul cannot travel on public transport.

Training will be provided for the right applicant on colostomy care if necessary.
