Hours: 5 hours per week term time, 14 hours per week school holidays (weekends included)

Pay: £14.00 per hour

A driver would be advantageous but not essential, you must be able to navigate the public transport systems.

 

About the Role

I am currently seeking an experienced personal assistant to support me to access the community and attend my various hobbies and coaching sessions, the role would suit someone with experience in working with young adults with Learning Disabilities and has an interest in football. I can communicate effectively and like to discuss many topics, so you must be happy to chat a lot.

 

Key Responsibilities

There are no personal care tasks required in this role.

Daily Living Support

  • Assistance with social activities and accessing the community.
  • Assist and accompany me to my scheduled football events or college events.
  • Places I enjoy include, trips to Newcastle and Sunderland, Beamish, maybe the beach in the warmer months and local parks/nature reserves. I also enjoy bowling and food outlets.
  • You will be required to ensure I eat well, as Mum said I eat too many sweets.

Mobility & Transport

  • Support and assistance to utilise public transport.
  • Full, clean UK driving licence is essential if you are a driver.

About Me (Santiago)

I am 19 years old and currently reside with my mum and dad, who both work. I attend college and currently coach wellbeing activities to senior members of a local gym. I play football for two teams and I am an avid Sunderland supporter. I have many topics of interest including current affairs, geography, science and travel, I enjoy travelling to other countries and learning about different cultures and traditions. When I am not out in the community, I enjoy playing on my Nintendo Switch and iPad. I enjoy classical music and would love to attend the Glasshouse to see a concert or take up some instrumental lessons. I do try to keep fit and visit the gym, so you may be required to attend the gym with me but don’t worry you don’t have to participate if you don’t want to. I am a natural chatterbox and love to discuss a wide variety of topics. If you are someone with relevant experience, can keep me safe and have the drive to keep me safe whilst engaging in my activities of choice I would love to hear from you.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced personal assistant for a loving young boy with Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, and PICA. Jamie always requires full supervision as he will eat non-food items and has a compulsion regarding drinking.  He currently resides with his mum, dad and sibling and they have 3 dogs.  Jamie also has no awareness of danger and will run at every opportunity. Experience of working with children with autism is a necessary requirement for this role.

Jamie enjoys a variety of sensory stimulating activities including trampolining, swimming and trips to the local parks. He would like to visit and explore new venues with enclosed spaces to widen his experiences within the community.  He uses a specialist buggy as and when required. Routine is very important to Jamie as he can dysregulate if sudden changes occur and due to his non-verbal autism, he cannot tell you directly what is wrong. Jamie uses hand gestures and leading to show and tell you, his needs. Jamie does have meltdowns so coping strategies to manage these must be demonstrated and implemented to ensure his safety.

The main tasks within this role will include supporting Jamie to access the local community, accompanying and supporting him to engage in his chosen activities, and personal care including nappy changing.

We are preferably looking for a car driver with a full clean UK driving licence for this role, however, this is not essential as Jamie will use public transport and regularly enjoys trips on the metro.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accompanying Yazan to a local groups and support with communications and activities.
  • Providing support with daily tasks and routines.
  • Encouraging and facilitating Yazan’s hobbies, particularly music and woodworking.
  • Driving Yazan to appointments and social activities (a full UK driving licence is required).
